About us
Luisenthal Manor is a special location, located in a picturesque area of Fundu Moldovei commune. Here, you will discover an oasis of peace and relaxation, in an impressive natural setting.
The lands you walk on today were once wild. Blackened by dense forests, anchored in ores of precious and highly sought after metals, these lands began to enrich the displaced population in the area with the construction of copper and silver mines. The Zipsers brought from today's southern Slovakia were miners or woodworkers, German-speaking and loyal to the Austrian monarchy. They were the ones who gave the newly established locality the name Luisenthal, after Princess Maria Luisa, the eldest daughter of Emperor Francis II of Habsburg and the future wife of Napoleon Bonaparte.
Raised and educated at the Austrian imperial court, Luisa was forced to leave Vienna and flee Napoleon's armies. During these forced journeys, Luisa also reached Galicia, the province of the Austrian Empire, which included, to the south, today's Bocovina area and Luisenthal.
After the ruin of the Austrian Empire, Luisa's family sought to make peace with Napoleon and offered his eldest daughter, Maria Luisa, as a wife. Napoleon was more than delighted with Luisa's match and adored her. The enthusiasm caused by the wedding of the two brought a period of peace and even friendship between the Austrian and French peoples.
Luisenthal was visited and even described by Romanian personalities of the time, such as Ion Creangă, Mihai Eminescu and Ciprian Porumbescu, the last of them leaving a few lines written that show the beauty and attraction of the place:
"[…] I don't know why this locality attracts me so much, I keep thinking about this beautiful place and, especially, about your idyllic home - I see it so vividly before my eyes. There I would like to retire, to retire to the mountains, away from all the noise and all the agitation of the world, just me alone with my thoughts, and possibly with my violin. Oh, it must be sweet to sit, alone, by the fire of fir wood, which streams, and dream, dream... Or dream of the fir forest, which trembles, sitting on soft moss, always dream!"

Enjoy Luisenthal as the ancients did!
Luisenthal is a land full of legends and stories from long forgotten times. The treasure from Quellenthal (Valea Izvorului, Pojorîta), the man of fire or the legend of the Giant from Pojorîta are just some of the legends that send us, step by step, along the mountain paths, in search of hidden treasures in ancient times.
Search for their hidden treasures, breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the surrounding views like the zipsers did, take refuge here to find your inner peace like Maria Luisa, or stop for a moment from conquering the world, to enjoy peace with your family, as Napoleon Bonaparte himself did. And if you are a creative soul, let the surrounding wilderness inspire you to return to the essence, the tall forests give you the courage to look up, and the mountain peaks show you that genuine work lasts forever.
